At 7:00 a.m., a TreXperience representative will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and take you to the San Pedro train station, where you will board the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes. The journey from the highlands of Cusco to the cloud forest where Machu Picchu is located takes approximately 4.5 hours.
During the rainy season (January to the end of April), all tours depart from Ollantaytambo. In this case, you will be picked up from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. to travel to the Ollantaytambo train station and board the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes. This itinerary also applies when trains from Cusco are sold out. Possible stations include San Pedro, Poroy, or Ollantaytambo.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of the city as you travel through the highest mountains, the Anta plains, the Pomatales Canyon, and Ollantaytambo, following the Urubamba River to Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo).
You’ll arrive in Aguas Calientes around midday and be transferred to your hotel to check in. In the afternoon, you can explore the town on your own and take optional hikes to the Machu Picchu Museum, the Butterfly Station, or the Mandor Gardens. You can also relax in the hot springs.
You’ll have dinner on your own and get an early rest for the following day’s visit to Machu Picchu. Hotel accommodations are included; we work with select hotels such as Ferre Machu Picchu, Susanna Inn, or similar.
Wake up early and enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Afterward, meet your guide and take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu to reach the main entrance of the citadel. You must present your original passport and ticket for entry.
You will enjoy a guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours, exploring the highlights of the citadel: terraces, the Guardhouse, viewpoints, temples, and palaces. Afterward, you will have time to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, not included). At Machu Picchu, we include Circuit 2 by default, as it is the most comprehensive. If it sells out, we will offer the best available option, which may be Circuit 3 or Circuit 1. We recommend that all travelers secure their visit as soon as possible, as tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and the best circuits and times sell out first.
After the tour, you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes. There you can have lunch, explore the town, and buy souvenirs. In the late afternoon, you’ll board the Expedition train for a 1.5-hour journey to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private van to Cusco. You’ll arrive at your hotel in Cusco around 7:00 p.m.
On the first day, you will transfer from Cusco to the train station (usually in Ollantaytambo) and travel by train to Aguas Calientes. You will spend the night in a hotel there. On the second day, you will take a bus to Machu Picchu for a guided tour and then return by train to Cusco.
It generally includes: hotel pickup, transportation to the train station, round-trip train tickets, bus ride up to and down from Machu Picchu, entrance to the citadel, a professional guide, and one night's hotel accommodation in Aguas Calientes.
The guided tour within the archaeological site usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours, during which the guide explains the history, architecture, and most important areas of the Inca citadel.
You'll spend the night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of Machu Picchu, which has restaurants, shops, and access to the hot springs.
Se recomienda reservar con varias semanas o incluso meses de anticipación, especialmente en temporada alta, para asegurar la disponibilidad de trenes y entradas a Machu Picchu.
