Our tour begins very early at 7:00 am when we’ll pick you up from your hotel and travel from Cusco to the highlands of Paucartambo. Our first stop will be the funerary towers, also known as the chullpas, of Ninamarca. After visiting the site, we’ll descend through the mysterious cloud forest, observing beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns along the way. We’ll also have time to see the Andean cock-of-the-rock and other birds. And if we’re lucky, we might even spot the spectacled bear. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at our traditional lodge with bathrooms and showers where we’ll spend the night. You have the option of doing the Canopy Walkway (optional, not included in the tour).
Early in the morning we’ll have breakfast, then we’ll board our bus to Atalaya. Along the way, we’ll visit an animal rescue center and some coca plantations. Afterward, we’ll take a hike where we can observe owls perched in the trees. Once in Atalaya, we’ll board our boat to reach our lodge; the boat trip takes approximately 30 minutes. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Lake Machuhuasi, where we’ll board our wooden raft. The trip will take approximately two hours, and along the way, you’ll see a great variety of birds, reptiles, mammals, monkeys, parrots, and other wildlife. In the evening, we’ll have a night hike. Overnight at a lodge with bathrooms and showers available.
Very early in the morning, we’ll take a boat to the parrot clay lick, where we can observe different species of birds, including parrots and macaws. Afterward, we’ll have a typical breakfast, and then we’ll head into the jungle to explore the area. Along the way, you might see monkeys, snakes, wild boars, jaguars, tapirs, and, if we’re lucky, a sloth. Afterward, we’ll have a typical lunch, and then we’ll visit the Lost Lake, where we have another chance to see more animals such as birds, monkeys, capybaras, giant toucans, river otters, and many more.
After visiting and exploring the jungle, you’ll have time to swim in the river (optional). Overnight in a lodge with bathrooms and showers available. Optional canopy zipline/flying fox experience not included in the tour.
After breakfast, we’ll return by boat to Atalaya, passing through Pilcopata. We’ll visit the cloud forest on our way back to Cusco. We’ll revisit the cloud forest, where we have a chance to see some wildlife. Arrival in Cusco is expected around 6:00 pm.
