This unforgettable day will begin very early! We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 4:30 a.m. Pick-up is available from any hotel within the historic center. Then, prepare for a two-hour drive to the town of Mollepata.
Next, fuel up with a delicious breakfast made with fresh, local ingredients at a local restaurant.
Afterward, we will continue for another hour by van to Soraypampa, the trailhead, where we will prepare for an impressive hike.
There, your guide will give you some time to get ready, use the restrooms, and do some stretching. The trail starts gently and becomes steeper as we approach the lake.
After about two hours of hiking through breathtaking scenery, we will reach the shimmering turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, at an altitude of 4,200 meters, located just below the snow-capped mountain of the same name. Take your time to stroll, relax, and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
Once you’ve soaked up the tranquility of the lake, we’ll begin a two-hour descent to the trailhead (Soraypampa).
There, we’ll board the van and head to Mollepata for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, enjoy some time to admire the views of the town.
Finally, we’ll settle in for the two-hour drive back to Cusco. We’ll drop you off at your hotel around 6:00 p.m., bringing this adventure to a perfect close.
Throughout the day, we’ll provide trekking poles for the ascent.
The tour usually starts between 4:00 and 5:00 AM with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Afterward, you'll travel approximately 3 hours to the town of Mollepata, where you'll have breakfast before continuing on to Soraypampa.
The hike is moderate to challenging due to the altitude (around 4,200 m above sea level). The ascent takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on each person's pace.
Yes, at the start of the hike in Soraypampa, locals offer horse rentals to help with the climb.
We recommend bringing hiking boots, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and some cash for additional expenses.
The best time is during the dry season, between April and October, when there is less rain and the weather allows you to better appreciate the turquoise color of the lagoon and the glacier of Mount Humantay.
